Student Network
The Roots of Hope Student Network is a partnership of student organizations across the country that share Roots of Hope's mission of empowering youth in Cuba to become the authors of their own futures. We feel the Student Network is vital to the growth of our Cell Phones for Cuba (C4C) project. In order to reach our goals, we need the help of your student organizaiton.
Collection Opportunities
There are lots of ways for your student organization to help young Cubans connect with each other. We suggest contributing to C4C in one (or both) of the following ways:
- Collection Drive
Your student organization can start a collection drive at your high school or university. By placing collection bins, as well as Roots of Hope literature, in high-traffic areas around your school, the potential for collecting used cell phones is endless. - Collection Event
Your student organization can host a C4C-themed event where the entrance fee is either a used cell phone or a contribution to the Raíces initiative.
Our goal at Roots of Hope is to provide your student organization with certain tools to use in order to spread the word about our project. However, the event logistics are completely up to your student organization. You are free to put your own twist on the programming you come up with to help us in this effort to put phones in young Cubans' hands.
Set-Up Process
Contact the Roots of Hope C4C team at c4c@raicesdeesperanza.org and let us know that you are in hosting a collection event or starting a collection drive. Once we hear from you, we will begin working with you to develop a collection event or drive in your region, or put you in contact with collection drives that are already going on in your area.
Filling us in on how you're planning to help is important, because the more support we already have, the more support we can convince new partners to give us.
Upon completion of these tasks, your student organization will be given a packet with various C4C promotional materials for you to use throughout your campaign or during your event.
After your collection event, or at designated times during a timeline that we will help you prepare, your organization will inventory and ship phones to our partner, EcoPhones, using their FREE shipping methods. We will send you detailed instructions on how to inventory and ship the phones as your shipping dates approach.
Recognition and Awards
Roots of Hope will offer the following to the student organization that collects the most phones throughout the school year:
- Recognition on the C4C Website.
- Picture of the Student Organization.
- Article describing the collection techniques, as well as how many phones collected.
- Five guaranteed participant spots at the following year's Roots of Hope Cuba Conference plus airfare.
- Recognition at the Roots of Hope Cuba Conference.
